I’ve shot more wedding photography in La Rioja’s prestigious Echaurren Hotel than anywhere else in northern Spain but this was the first one I’ve done where the couple actually met each other in the building!

The Echuarren is a fifth-generation family-run hotel in Ezcaray which in recent years has become regionally and nationally famous in Spain due to its two Michelin star restaurant El Portal. Elena & Matt met while doing a year’s internship in chef Francis Paniego’s kitchen and love blossomed. Perhaps it was something in the food?

This was a small destination wedding - the couple now live in the US - made particularly special because it was also a great excuse for a reunion with their Spanish friends. With everyone so involved in catching up with each other I was able to get in close to capture much of the spirit, fun and happiness of the day.
