A Full-Optional Surprise Proposal In Venice

Some proposals are simple and spontaneous, others are carefully planned down to the smallest detail. Recently, I had the honor of photographing one of the most beautifully organized surprise proposals I’ve ever been part of in Venice — a true “full-optional” experience.

The setting was the magnificent Sala della Musica at Ca’ Sagredo Hotel, one of the most romantic and historic venues along the Grand Canal. As a proposal photographer in Venice , I was ready to capture every moment, alongside a talented team that made this event truly unforgettable.

To set the mood, violinist @camilladegiovanni filled the room with music, while @prettyflowers.fioreriasanrocco decorated the hall with red roses and glowing candles. The atmosphere was pure magic, and once the big moment arrived, emotions naturally took center stage.

After hearing her heartfelt “yes,” the couple shared their first dance in the candlelit hall, guided by the violinist’s music. We followed with part of their engagement photoshoot inside the hotel, making the most of its elegant setting.

Later in the day, we continued their celebration with portraits on Ca’ Sagredo’s stunning terrace overlooking the Grand Canal. From there, we explored Venice by boat — first a gondola ride through hidden canals, then a water taxi journey along the Grand Canal, passing the Rialto Bridge and other landmarks just around the corner.

Each element — the venue, music, flowers, gondola, and water taxi — is often included individually in surprise proposals, but it was very special to witness everything come together in one event so thoughtfully prepared.

For me, it was a joy and privilege to document such a love story — one where Venice itself became part of the proposal, making it as unforgettable for me as it was for them.
