Real Wedding Description

Renae and Tareq’s wedding on the wild, wet, west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia was invigorating and inspiring in many ways. Initially, because it was a fully outdoor October affair at a windswept rainforest beach park. And additionally because it was truly reaffirming of the virtues of marriage and how it relates to community. This was a very heartwarming event.

Renae and Tareq are outdoor guides and leaders and their love of nature and lack of fear of it played a central theme throughout the day. The choice of venue, the storm clouds and rain, all fit perfectly with the vows, prayers, speeches and affirmations of the glory and power of the wilds.

The ceremony was ‘consummated’ by a bracing and brave ocean plunge. As the plucky, elated pair clambered back to the beach, they were declared ‘husband and wife’ amid great clammer and cheer from the umbrella-ed throng.

During a set break of the marvellous jazz played under a park bbq shelter by the Pablo Cardenas Quintet, Tareq took up the microphone and spoke passionately about community, acceptance, forgiveness and personal responsibility. Being that Tareq is Palestinian and his best man is Jewish, his words glowed with profound credibility.
