Real Wedding Description

They say you can’t have a rainbow without a little rain. For Amanda Vance and Nick Petrini, their wedding day already had a rainbow of colorful bridal gowns and a little rain couldn’t damper these newlyweds’ spirits when it came to capturing the couple’s wedding photos around Chicago on their special day.

Nick and Amanda were wed at Chicago’s most magnificent and desirable church, Holy Name Cathedral. Due to the incredibly large volume of wedding requests, ceremonies are celebrated for registered parishioners only who can wait up to two years to hold their service in the gothic Chicago shrine during popular wedding seasons.

The newlyweds, along with the bridal party of 23, boarded their trolley and rolled up north to the home of the Chicago Cubs. Even though it was a game day, the wet weather and Cubs loss (Cincinnati Reds 2, Chicago Cubs 0) made for easy traffic in Wrigleyville around The Friendly Confines. We quickly hopped out at Addison & Clark and captured a few cool photos beneath the legendary Chicago baseball team’s marquee.

Fortunately by the time we made our decent down Lake Shore Drive the rain had let up long enough to allow us to capture a few photographs along Chicago’s lakeshore. Even though our destination was intended to capture the Chicago skyline, the murky fog that choked the city skyscrapers actually made for a more interesting backdrop than a typical sunny Saturday afternoon. Amanda and Nick kissed beneath an umbrella as winds whipped off Lake Michigan.

We arrived at one of Chicago’s premiere wedding venues, Galleria Marchetti, just in time for cocktail hour. The majestic tented pavilion was highlighted with Amanda’s unique handmade touches including her custom crafted tissue paper flower arrangements which adorned each table’s centerpieces. Outside the grand tent you could see the top of the former Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) above blooming flowers and leaves starting to form on branches. Here we captured select family portraits beneath the city lights in the beautiful gardens adjoining the venue.

Nick and Amanda shared their first dance before their favorite local Chicago band Mike & Joe hit the stage and rocked guests with popular cover songs all night by acts such as The Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Rusted Root and U2. During the group’s second set they performed Billy Joel’s “Only the Good Die Young” as a fitting tribute to Amanda’s late mother.

Nick & Amanda are honeymooning in Italy and Thailand. I can’t wait for their return to unveil all the incredible photos captured on their big day!
