UK & destination Wedding Photographer. In school, I'd had work experience in a Photographic retailer so I decided from that moment to pursue it as a career. I studied Photography, Art & Design at college for 4 years, and through my projects developed an obsessive fascination with Photojournalism (My house is now floor to celing bookshelves of Photo Books!). Studio and any staged photography, whilst I respected the craft and tecnique didn't appeal to me at all. I always wanted to capture people and life moments 'on the move', as the resulting images communicated more to me and had more impact and meaning. I remember going with my college when I was 17 to see a photo exhibition of Don McCullin's work at the Barbican in London, I was in awe from that moment. It wasn't the content of the photographs, in that case War & Conflict, but the nature of the photographs and how they captured people and moments. I realised that this could exist in any walk of life as long as I had my camera. So I quickly started photographing any opportunity that was available, from shooting documentary pictures of Yacht racing teams, documenting sports clubs, behind the scenes documentary for a music video production company, and outside of any commissioned work I could also document people locally as street photography, which I still do today. I shot a friends wedding when I was 21 (in 2001), and using a few images to showcase I got a job with a busy local wedding photography business. The wedding market was changing rapidly and the demand for photojournalistic style pictures that I'd become accustomed to shooting seemed to be firmly favoured by my clients. Once I had a decent portfolio and made my own website I went ahead and set up my own business in 2006. Since then I've enjoyed working all over the UK, and in 2017 this year was granted membership to the ISPWP, which has been one of my goals for many years! In terms of unique weddings, every one seems to have it's own uniqueness by definition of the people that are there on any given day, but one weekend in particular was interesting to me as a photographer. I'd been booked to shoot an Elopement in Chelsea, London on a Saturday, a lovely couple from Canada, so it was them and just two witnesses. They had a ceremony then we travelled around London together taking in the sights and taking really natural pictures- lots of room to be creative. The very next day on the Sunday was again in London, but was booked for an Indian Wedding at the Hilton on Park Lane, a lavish affair with over 600 guests! So was a complete contrast to the day before and a weekend I will certainly always remember. In terms of Wedding Venues, I think the most interesting has to be Heatherden Hall at Pinewood Studios, not only a beautiful wedding, but the history of the location having featured in many british movies and the home of some of the most celebrated actor's and actresses in film history. We took full advantage of this by sneaking off for some portraits along the quite ornate hall-ways (probably off-limits?!) to see the offices of where famous actor's and actresses worked, the bride and groom must have felt like film-stars for the day! I'm very excited to have a wedding in Edinburgh, Scotland 2018, as it will be my first trip to Scotland. My future plan is to photograph some destination weddings abroad- this is the next step for me. A lot of my clients have come from all over the world, I would like to get an insight into the places they have originated from and to experience their cultures, and of course get lots of great pictures! My very first inspiration being Don McCullin, at the very first exhibition I saw that opened my eyes to natural pictures, in homage I've always carried a Nikon, that he is famed for. His one saved his life...my Nikon/s have reward me a life that I cherish every-day...just waiting for them to make a quiet mirrorless one so I can be more discreet in Church ceremonies! The War is clearly Don's domain....I prefer to do the Love part.
