Celícia and John Mauro: The No-Energy Wedding!

No, we are not talking about the energy that refers to excitement, enthusiasm, and thrills. We are talking about electrical energy!

During the making of, everything happened as usual: the bride’s anxiety and expectancy, the beautiful wedding dress on the hanger, the flurry of activity with friends and sisters-in-law… Once we left the beauty salon, our adventure began!

On our way there we realized that the street lights were off and we soon found out that the church had run out of electricity. We got to the church and we thought that the power would soon be restored, but fifteen, twenty, and then forty minutes went by and the church remained powerless. Celícia decided to make her entrance in the dark church, a very wise decision!

We were fearful that the pictures would turn out poorly because it was so dark. We could not even use the manual focus, because we couldn’t see if we were focusing correctly through the camera’s viewfinder. So we talked to the wedding planner and explained that we would do our best!

The lighting available was 10 candles, an improvisation by the people from the church. Outside the church there was a little bit of light, but inside it was pretty dark.

What saved us? It was our shameless attitude and a small LED lamp that works with a battery, which we hardly use because we like to use natural light as much as possible. The man you see in the photo holding the LED lamp was our hero. He was one of the guests who were sitting on the front row; he sympathized with our concern about taking pictures in the dark and decided to help us. So he held the LED lamp for us!

We could have edited the picture on the computer to take out the “LED lamp man,” but we would be hiding a very relevant fact on the most important day for that couple. We are certain that they will remember that part of the story for the rest of their lives and will laugh a lot with everything that happened!

In the end we thought that it was very different and quite romantic, and, most importantly, the newlyweds loved the result! What really matters in a wedding are the bride and the groom’s emotions. They did an excellent job not letting the stress take over the small details!

The ceremony was beautiful and very moving. When we were taking the pictures outside, before the bride and the groom came into the party, we realized that there was the main electricity company’s building right in front of the party house. We went there and took a picture in order to laugh a little bit.
