Real Wedding Description
Love is Love. It was a recurring theme though out the speeches and it was obvious for all to see at the wedding that this was true. Jason and Paul’s wedding was one we had been anticipating since booking it last year. It was our first gay wedding which meant that we were both excited and nervous at the same time this being our first gay wedding. As it turned out Jason, Paul and all their friends made us feel more than welcome and having shot Jason’s sister’s wedding a could of years ago it felt like hanging out with old friends. I say this because a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere tends to lead to great photographs. The feeling that you are part of the group looking out rather than outside looking in produces work that is a lot more intimate and this was certainly the case here.

Jason got ready with his family and friends at their house while Paul and his party got ready downtown in the Novotel Hotel. The other big factor in our excitement about shooting their wedding was the fact their ceremony was at The Winter Garden Theatre. What a treat to be able to shoot there, such an interesting and beautiful building. It did bring its own challenges in terms of light but nothing that couldn’t be overcome and led to dramatic and romantic images that really caught the atmosphere of the place, the character and and the feelings Jason and Paul had for each other. We could have spent all day shooting there but of course the fact it was a wedding dictated otherwise. From the theatre we headed out walking to Hank’s which is at 9 1/2 Church Street. Hanks is an intimate space for a wedding reception but the food was amazing and the atmosphere perfect for the occasion. Our time with everyone ended after their flash mob dance which made for a perfect ending to what was an exhausting, hot but rewarding wedding in the city.
