Four Unique and Creative Wedding Details

Wedding details are a great way to personalize your wedding and make it truly unique. Four ISPWP members sent in some unique and creative wedding details they had seen at recent weddings.

Hand Drawn Wedding Program Covers

This is from a recent Dec 2008 wedding. Our bride is a grade school teacher came up with this great little idea for designing her programs. Here is what she had to say about this: “Being a first grade teacher, I also recruited my students’ help to add a special little touch to our wedding programs.  We had ten different covers printed, each hand-drawn by one of my first graders.  Our friends and family loved them!”

BART (Train) Tickets For Seating Assignments

I shot this wedding about a year ago or so. I recalled their e-session being unique, in the fact they met on BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit (our train). I didn’t know how much of an impact it had on their relationship, but when the day of the wedding came, I was shooting the normal stuff, dress, shoes, flowers, etc. I looked over and saw a bunch of BART tickets and I thought that was odd…why would they have so many tickets… I looked again, and I saw that they were actually seating assignments!… They had attached them to their wedding invitations and you used your ‘BART card’ to find your seat… Each table was designated a  different train stop: i.e.: if your card said ‘ashby’, then you sat at the stop named in Berkeley for ashby street… very unique, and cool I might add…

Skipping Stones and Wedding Wishes

I love when clients incorporate things that are deeply personal into their wedding that add a unique touch that you don’t see anywhere else.  Anyone can have personalized wedding napkins or candy bars, but I would guess the guests of Briena and Jeff’s wedding had never been given a rock before as a favor.  Upon arriving to the ceremony each guest was given a simple flat rock that is often found in the northern part of Wisconsin: otherwise known as  a “good skipper.” They were told at the beginning of the ceremony to keep their rock safe, to treat it sort of like a pet rock and it would be revealed to them what the purpose of the rock was.  At the close of the ceremony, the officiant told the story of how Briena and Jeff had met, and their special bond in Door County Wisconsin and how they would sit and talk for hours along the shores at a state park skipping stones and making wishes and how this spot was where they realized they were in love with each other, and eventually the spot Jeff asked Briena to marry him. They then asked the guests to hold their rocks in their hands and make a wish for Briena and Jeff and their marriage.  Briena and Jeff then took the rocks back to their special spot along the shore and skipped their wedding wishes back into the vast waters of Lake Michigan on their honeymoon.

Day of the Dead Cake Topper

Liesl and Derrick had an amazingly offbeat and unique wedding from start to finish.  Their flower girl wore fairy wings, the minister was a friend of theirs (complete with long dreadlocks and a garland around his neck), there was a Batman groom’s cake, a huge bonfire later in the evening, and the entire event was a laid back, fun time for everyone.  But, the detail that I delighted in most was their Day of the Dead cake topper, set in among the top tier of their cupcakes in their cake display. The little skeleton bride and groom was just the perfect touch and made me so happy!  At many other weddings this detail would have seemed unusual or out of place, but it fit Liesl and Derrick perfectly.
